You’re encouraged to strike a pose for International Yoga Day on Saturday, June 20 in Cape Girardeau.
The city’s parks and recreation department is hosting a free yoga class in celebration.
The idea is to highlight all of the benefits of yoga.
Studies show it is good for balance and flexibility, as well as improve symptoms of stress.
Christine Jaegers, the fitness and wellness specialist, said with everything going on in our world right now, this is a perfect time to practice yoga.
“There has just been so much going on from a to z it seems like so this year the stress levels with everyone is extra high from worrying about our jobs, to income to things in our community right now decreasing that stress is more important than ever,” Jaegers said. “It has endless benefits that sometimes we don’t’ realize what it is doing to our bodies.”
The yoga class is great for all ages and skill levels.
All you need is a mat.
The class will meet at Riverfront Park in downtown Cape Girardeau.
You can get your flow on starting at 8 a.m.
The class will be followed by a surprise treat.
