Mitchell Tenpenny, Alter Bridge plus more to perform at 2020 HerrinFesta

A 30-year tradition is set to take over Herrin this spring.

HerrinFesta Italiana will kick off on Sunday, May 17 and continue through Memorial Day weekend.

This year's lineup includes performances from country artists, rock bands, and Christian artists.

Here's a closer look at the full entertainment schedule:

Thursday, May 21: Hairball

The live music will kick off five days of live music. This high energy band puts on an homage to some of the biggest arena acts in the world. The Festa audience in 2017 heard Hairball faithfully recreate the sounds of such bands as Van Halen, KISS, Motley Crue, Queen, Journey, and Aerosmith.

The Uglies will open for Hairball.

WHEN: Thursday, May 23 starting at 7 p.m.

Friday, May 22: Mitchell Tenpenny

Rising country music artist Mitchell Tenpenny is set to take the stage. The powerhouse vocalist is riding the wave of his double platinum-certified number one hit “Drunk Me” from his album Telling All the Secrets. In 2019 Tenpenny was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the ACM Awards. He also garnered a nomination for Breakout Video for “Drunk Me” at the CMT Music Awards.

Southern Illinois’ own, and award-winning Nashville songwriter Kendall Marvel will open for Tenpenny.

House Whiskey will also add to the powerhouse lineup.

WHEN: Friday, May 22 starting at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, May 23: Alter Bridge

American hard rock band Alter Bridge is another headliner. Alter Bridge was formed in 2004 after the breakup of the band Creed. Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott Phillips, and bassist Brian Marshall are joined by vocalist Myles Kennedy. Late last year they released their sixth studio album, Walk the Sky. Alter Bridge’s catalog spans a wide range from hard rock, alternative, to progressive.

Alternative metal band 10 Years and The Killer Pimps will also perform ahead of Alter Bridge.

WHEN: Saturday, May 23 starting at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday, May 24: Russell Dickerson

Russell Dickerson’s newest single, “Love You Like I Used To,” is a love letter to his wife that hits country radio in March. Dickerson will be trying for his fourth number one single. He hit the top with “Yours” and “Blue Tacoma” in 2018. He scored his third number one single with “Every Little Thing” in November 2019. All three of Dickerson’s number one songs are featured on his 2017 debut album, Yours. A second album is in the works.

Walker Hayes, as well as The Ben Nation Band Featuring John Spicer will kick off the live music on Sunday.

WHEN: Sunday, May 24 starting at 6:30 p.m.

Monday, 25: Tauren Wells and Brandon Heath

Faith and Family Night returns for a third year at HerrinFesta. This year the concert will feature Tauren Wells and Brandon Heath.

Wells has had six Grammy nominations, winning for Best New Artist in 2017. His latest album, Citizen of Heaven, was released in January, debuting at number one of the Billboard Christian/Gospel chart.

Heath, a Nashville native, has four number one singles to his credit including the platinum-certified “Give Me Your Eyes.” Add to that five Granny nominations, an American Music Award nomination, and eight Dove Awards.

Faith and Family Night is presented in cooperation with the Southern Illinois Worship Center.
