It's called Inspiration Point for a reason
Tucked away in the rolling hills of the Shawnee National Forest you’ll find a remote, isolated spot that is positively breathtaking.
It’s called Inspiration Point.
A short hike through the LaRue Pine Hills area will lead you here:
We suggest you pack a lunch and plan on eating atop this unique limestone formation.
Soak up the gorgeous panoramic views of the Mississippi River Valley and the Big Muddy bottomlands.
Heartland Weekend’s Nichole Cartmell would argue you can’t find a better view than this in all of Illinois.
Here you are surrounded by nature, so it’s sure to move you. No wonder why they call it Inspiration Point.
Word to the wise though, wear some shoes with grip since you will climb up and down some rather tall bluffs.
The hike itself, though, isn’t long at all, just under a mile.
You can find this spot along Illinois Route 3.
