CARBONDALE, Ill. (Heartland News) - The 13th annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner returns to Carbondale on Friday, November 6, at the Civic Center.
The event is meant to honor and share a meal with local veterans ahead of Veterans Day.
The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Zeta AMICAE of Carbondale, is hosting the dinner. Doors open at the Civic Center at 5 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
Organizers said Smokin K’s BBQ & Cajun Cuisine of Marion will cater the dinner. A live speaker is scheduled, and Marion High School ROTC will volunteer at the event.

One of the event’s organizers, Carbondale Mayor Carolin Harvey, said the dinner is a way to say thank you to veterans.
“We always try to do this before Veterans Day because everybody does something on Veterans Day, which means we do it early so that we can have all the veterans to ourselves and they don’t have to decide which meal to get for free,” Harvey said.
People can RSVP ahead of the event by scanning the QR code on the flyer or by calling 618-303-1973.
