SIKESTON, Mo. (Heartland News) - It’s a little late in the year for a rodeo, but the Jaycee grounds in Sikeston are lighting up until this Saturday.
This year marks the 82nd annual American Legion Cotton Carnival.
Visitors can enjoy rides, contests, food vendors and a Saturday morning parade.
Tonight, organizers put together the “Mr. and Miss” Sikeston contest, with the Jr. Miss Sikeston contest slated for October 1.

Frankie Adams with the American Legion says food lovers will have a lot to look forward to this week.

“The American Legion, they’re selling all beef hot dogs and pulled pork sandwiches and french fries,” Adams said. “The Shriner is selling ribbon fries and potato skins. I’ve got the world’s best ice cream, homemade ice cream. I’m going to end it on a high note because we have Dirty Fiz out here with their dirty sodas. It’s pretty neat. I’ll end on the American Legion’s fish shack, where we sell hamburgers and world-famous fish sandwiches.”
The cotton carnival continues through Saturday and is free to attend. For more information, click here.
