JACKSON, Mo. (Heartland News) - Everyone is invited to celebrate German culture again this fall in Jackson.
Jackson Oktoberfest will return October 2-3, featuring two days of traditional German food, live music, games and the third annual Wiener Dog Races.
The festival opens Friday, Oct. 2, with live music from Legends Undercover from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Festivities resume Saturday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m., with scheduled events beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday’s schedule includes a German cuisine competition, stein hoisting, a pet parade, German games and live music from Next of Kin from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Wiener Dog Races are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Saturday on a 48-foot track. Competitors will race for trophies across four categories based on age and breed:
- Cocktail Wiener (16 weeks to 2 years old)
- Hot Dog (3 to 5 years old)
- Jumbo Frank (6 years and older)
- Wannabe Wiener category(new category), which is open to any dog that can fit into an 18-by-18-inch starting box
Registration is $10 in advance and $15 on race day until noon. Pre-registered participants will receive a participation bag sponsored by Pet Supplies Plus.
