MAKANDA, Ill. (Heartland News) - Next year, Giant City State Park will celebrate its 100th anniversary.
And leaders at the state park want to hear from the community.
“In 2027, we would like to share your Giant City memories with the public in a yearlong Visitor Center display,” park leaders said in a statement.
You can submit your stories and photos about your favorite moments at Giant City State Park via email at DNR.GiantCity100@illinois.gov or in person at the Giant City Visitors Center between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., seven days a week.
Stories will be accepted from August through November 2026, and should be no more than 100 words long. Please include a copy of an original picture.

“These can be funny stories, life events or just favorite Giant City memories,” park leaders said.
