CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Heartland News) - A local business and nonprofit are teaming up to help give pets in need new homes.

Carbondale’s Hangar 9 is teaming up with St. Francis CARE, an animal shelter in southern Illinois.

They plan to open something called the Dawg Park.

It lets people meet and adopt furry friends looking for their forever homes.

“It just worked out perfectly because it’s the dog park, D-A-W-G, and so we are bringing in the d-o-g’s,” said St. Francis CARE President and Founder Diane Daugherty. “And if it’s really, really hot, we will be inside. So don’t let the heat deter you from coming.”

To kick off the new addition, they’ll hold an event on Thursday, August 20, with live music from Stick Gilbert and Loose Gravel.

It all coincides with the 20th anniversary of St. Francis.
