Mo. Gov. Kehoe requests federal disaster declaration due to June’s damaging storms

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KFVS) - Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe requested that President Donald Trump approve a major disaster declaration that would provide federal assistance to 34 counties for severe weather that occurred June 4–18.

The severe weather in June included flash flooding, tornados and intense straight-line winds that damaged several parts of Missouri.

“Federal assistance will provide critical support as communities continue repairing essential infrastructure and recovering from these devastating storms,” Kehoe said.

Kehoe is requesting FEMA Public Assistance for 34 counties, including two in the Heartland, Cape Girardeau County and Scott County.

If approved, Public Assistance would allow local governments and qualifying nonprofit agencies to seek federal assistance for emergency response and recovery costs. This includes repairing and replacing damaged roads, bridges and other public infrastructure.

Joint damage assessments by FEMA, SEMA and local officials estimate emergency response costs and public infrastructure damage exceed $32.3 million.
