Metropolis man pleads guilty to attempted possession, distribution of fentanyl

BENTON, Ill. (KFVS) - A Metropolis, Illinois man will face 63 months in prison after admitting that he attempted to possess with intent to distribute over 54 grams of fentanyl, officials said.

Jason J. Gallo, 54, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted possession with the intention to distribute fentanyl in February. That is according to the Southern District of Illinois Public Affairs Officer Lauren Barry Duncan.

Officials say law enforcement intercepted two packages of fentanyl pills being delivered from California to Gallo’s residence in Metropolis between March and April 2024.

According to court documents, on or around April 10, 2024, Gallo attempted to possess with the intent to distribute approximately 54 grams of fentanyl in Massac County.

After serving 63 months in prison, Gallo will serve four years of supervised release. The court also assessed a $1.5K fine.

The United States Postal Inspection Service led this investigation. They were supported by the Metropolis Police Department and the Illinois State Police’s Southern Illinois Drug Task Force.
