CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - The Carbondale Warming Center, a place for community members to cool off in the summer, said they are shutting down due to maintenance and funding issues.
Executive Director Teneshkia Wright said their HVAC system is not operating at full capacity and that two units were stolen. They unfortunately do not have the money to repair what is broken or missing.
Despite the challenges, they want to continue providing for those in need.
“We will have ice and water for people that are needing to get ice and water that’s outside,” Wright said. “The folks that are living in here are still here for the resources and different things like that.”
The center will officially close its doors at the end of July and reopen in November at a new location.
