JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - Jackson County State’s Attorney Marsha L. Cascio-Hale announced on June 18 that a Murphysboro man pleaded guilty to stolen-vehicle-related charges.
On December 5, 2025, a citizen contacted the Carbondale Police Department reporting that her Kia SUV was stolen. She said the defendant was staying with her and took it without permission. Officers located the defendant and arrested him.
On December 12, 2025, another citizen contacted the police department reporting that his Toyota Scion had been stolen. The defendant was identified as the perpetrator and was pulled over in the vehicle. When pulled over, authorities say he fled the scene on foot and was eventually arrested.
In an interview, the defendant, 30-year-old Jeffery Haremski, admitted to stealing over 18 vehicles.
On February 26, 2026, Haremski pleaded guilty to two charges of Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
