MADISON COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - A driver is facing charges after striking a Madison County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle and leaving the scene.

On June 18, a Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to investigate a suspicious vehicle near the Castor River crossing on County Road 208.

Officials say the driver fled from the deputy and struck a sheriff’s office patrol vehicle multiple times while trying to force their vehicle past it. The driver then left the area.

Authorities entered a stop-and-hold for the suspected vehicle. St. Francois County law enforcement later encountered the vehicle and became involved in an incident that ended in a serious crash. The suspect and individuals involved were transported for medical treatment.

A warrant was issued for Richard Emmitt Peterson. The Madison County warrant charged Peterson with the following:

  • Resisting/Interfering with Arrest for a Felony
  • Property Damage in the First Degree
  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident — Property Damage Exceeding $1,000

The court set a $15K cash-only bond.

Peterson is currently receiving treatment at an area hospital.

There may be additional charges.
