Sesser, Ill., man sentenced to 88 years in connection with child sex crimes

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - Franklin County State’s Attorney Abby Dinn announced that a Sesser, Illinois, man will serve 88 years in connection with child sex crimes.

According to a press release from the Franklin County State’s Attorney’s Office, on May 14, 2022, a young female told her mother that 54-year-old Darrell Pool of Sesser, Ill. molested her. A few months later, another family member came forward with the same allegations.

A thorough investigation took place. On November 21, 2022, Pool was charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

A jury trial took place on March 3, 2026. The jury found Pool guilty on all four counts.

On Thursday morning, June 18, the Honorable Judge Evan Owens heard arguments regarding sentencing alternatives.

Owens sentenced Pool to 37 years on both counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and 7 years on both counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

The 37-year sentences will be served consecutively, and the 7-year sentences will be served concurrently with one another after both 37-year sentences, resulting in a total of 88 years.

Pool will be required to serve 85% of each 37-year sentence. The sentences will be followed by three years of mandatory supervised release.

He will serve his time in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The Sesser Police Department and the Franklin-Williamson Child Advocacy Center investigated this case.
