SIUC to host annual Fourth of July fireworks display

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - The annual fireworks display returns to Southern Illinois University Carbondale to commemorate Independence Day and America’s 250th anniversary.

According to a news release from the city, the celebration will begin with a musical performance by the Southern Illinois Music Festival at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 4 in lot 18 by Banterra Bank.

The fireworks will follow at 9:15 p.m.

Food vendors will be on site with plenty of treats.

For the best viewing, organizers say you can park in Banterra Center parking lots 18 and 56. Overflow parking will be directed to lot 89, north of the Banterra Center.

They say you should arrive early because the main parking lots are usually full and close by 9 p.m.

According to the city, road closures will start at 6 p.m., including parking lots 37 and 52. Cars must be cleared from the areas by 6 p.m.

Douglas Drive and Saluki Drive will be closed from Evergreen to Lincoln, and from Douglas to Arena Drive, until after the fireworks display.

Parking along Route 51 or other roads for viewing purposes is prohibited.

If it rains, organizers say the fireworks display will be postponed to Sunday, July 5 at 9:15 p.m.
