DU QUOIN, Ill. (KFVS) - After 40 years, Street Machine Nationals announced its final event in Du Quoin, Illinois.

In a Facebook post, they said that June 5-7 will be their final car show in Du Quoin. The event will take place at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds.

“This is truly the end of an era,” said Matt Hickman, managing director of Bonnier LLC Motorsports & Outdoor Group. “Street Machine Nationals in Du Quoin has meant so much to so many people over the years--participants, exhibitors, sponsors, staff, and fans alike. While we are looking toward the future of the brand, we also wanted to make sure we properly honor the history and community that made this event special for 40 years.”

At this time, Bonnier has not provided a reason as to why they’ve decided to pull the event out of Du Quoin.

Du Quoin Mayor Josh Downs says he’s upset they have chosen to leave the city, but says neither the city nor the fairgrounds is expected to suffer economically by the move.

He says there are still plenty of events that take place year-round with continued support from the state level.

“The State of Illinois, the Governor, and the Director of AG are committed to this facility, as am I on the city level. There are like 250 non-fair events out there a year. In 365 days, and 10 days of the fair with set up and tear down, that doesn’t leave you a whole bunch of days,” said Downs.

Organizers say attendees can expect special anniversary moments throughout the weekend, including commemorative merchandise, collectibles, legacy displays, and tributes celebrating the event’s long-standing history in Du Quoin.
