Missouri

Local reenactors at Fort D in Cape Girardeau will honor the memory of veterans past and present over Memorial Day Weekend. You can join them May 24-26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

The Remembrance Run/Walk 5K took place on Monday, May 25 in Cape Girardeau. Organizers say the course went from Lynwood Baptist Church, up the hill by KFVS and into Cape Girardeau County Park North onto the Avenue of Flags. You can click here for more information.

Jackson American Legion Post 158 hosted a Memorial Day Celebration on May 25 at 8:30 a.m., starting at the entrance to the City Cemetery on the 400 block of S. High Street.

Several events are planned throughout Memorial Day Weekend in New Madrid. Events include a fishing tournament, a cookoff, a basketball tournament, a Spades tournament, and a Family Memorial Walk. For details about the festivities, visit NewMadridFun.com.

Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial in Perryville will host a Veterans Breakfast on Tuesday from 7-8 a.m. It’s for veterans only. They’ll also display tributes visitors left at “America’s Wall” in the Welcome Center over the weekend.

A Memorial Day ceremony was held at Veterans Park in Sikeston on Monday, May 25, at 11 a.m. Organizers say there was a free lunch for all veterans and their families after the ceremony at American Legion Post 114.

The March to the River took place on Saturday, May 23. Participants walked from Cape County Park North, stopped at VFW Post 3838 for a break and then continued to the KC Hall on Spanish Street.

Illinois

Woodlawn Cemetery in Carbondale hosted its annual Memorial Day Service at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 25. The keynote address was delivered by Desert Storm Army Veteran, Dr. Randy Burnside.

Mound City National Cemetery hosted a special Memorial Day ceremony on Saturday, May 23 to commemorate both Memorial Day and the 250th anniversary of the United States. The ceremony started at 10 a.m. at the cemetery in Mound City.

The Thebes Historical Society hosted its annual Memorial Day Weekend event on Sunday, May 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Annual Carterville Lions Club/Military Salute was on May 23-25 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cannon Park.

The West Franklin Historical District and Silkwood Inn Museum hosted the annual Memorial Weekend BBQ Fundraiser at the Historical District facility, 2130 Schoolhouse Road in Mulkeytown, Saturday through Sunday, May 23-24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kentucky

Cars and Guitars took place in downtown Paducah on Saturday, May 23, featuring classic cars and live music from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Tennessee

The University of Tennessee Martin hosted a Memorial Day Commemoration ceremony on Friday, May 22 at the Boling University Center’s Watkins Auditorium at 9 a.m. Retired Col. John Cooper of Mount Juliet was the featured speaker at the event. The ceremony included a presentation of colors and a gun salute.
