POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KFVS) - The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center received second-quarter funding for non-recurring maintenance projects.

The funding comes from a $4.8B in nationwide VA spending to modernize, repair and improve health care facilities via the Veterans Health Administration’s non-recurring maintenance program.

Funding projects include:

  • Construction of an isolation ward, including four isolation rooms for acute care
  • Renovation of the Community Living Center (Phase 1)
  • Replacement of the fire pump automatic transfer switch system

Of the total $4.8B committed, VA has obligated a total of $1.064B. Obligation of funds includes:

  • $795 million to repair and upgrade outdated infrastructure systems in medical facilities
  • $255 million for maintenance and modernization of facility infrastructure
  • $13 million for major building upgrades like elevators, electrical systems and boiler plants
