3 southeast Mo. nonprofits receive $75K in grants

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI. (KFVS) - Three nonprofits in southeast Missouri received grants totaling $75K on April 30.

The grants were part of the Coover Regional Resiliency Grant Program, a partnership of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, the Louis L. and Julia Dorothy Coover Charitable Foundation and Commerce Trust.

Missouri Delta Foundation received $25K. The money will be used for purchasing an advanced ultrasound unit and establishing nearby telehealth consultations.

“Transportation is a big factor, and these moms physically cannot get themselves where they need (to be),” said Sarah Garner with Missouri Delta Foundation. “Through a partnership with the SSM hospitals up in St. Louis, women of southeast Missouri will be able to come to Missouri Delta with this specialized machine, get their ultrasound done, and then the results will be read by specialists up in St. Louis — so truly saving lives.”

Southeast Missouri Food Bank received $25K. The money will be used to add five to seven new school food pantries.

“Last year, we distributed over 14 million pounds of food to families and neighbors in need,” said Gus Eby with the food bank. “With this funding, we are going to open five to seven new school pantries and build partnerships in some low-income counties in our service area, providing easy-to-access and healthy foods to children in our communities.”
