Southeast Mo. students earn recognition in St. Louis art competition

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI. (KFVS) - Students from eastern Missouri submitted artwork for an annual competition in St. Louis; several Heartland students received recognition.

The Judicial Learning Center hosted its annual art competition, inviting students in grades 1-12 to submit entries about the importance of the American jury system. This year’s competition connected jury service to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

The following southeast Mo. students earned recognition:

  • Alize Kershaw of New Madrid County Central High School, 3rd place in the high school category
  • Alivia Smith of Pemiscot County R-3, honorable mention in the middle school category
  • Beatrice Lorenz of Jackson R-2 East Elementary, 1st place in the upper elementary category
  • Heny Vogt of St. Agnes in Bloomsdale, 3rd place in the upper elementary category
  • Joshua Troup, homeschool, 1st place in the lower elementary category
  • Ben Mayabb of Jackson R-2 East Elementary, 2nd place in the lower elementary category
  • Kennedy True of Jackson R-2 East Elementary, 3rd place in the lower elementary category

First through third places will receive a cash prize. All students will receive a certificate, a ribbon and all artwork will be displayed in the Jury Assembly Room on the first floor of the Thomas F. Eagleton U.S. Courthouse in St. Louis, Mo. for one year.
