MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (KFVS) - A vehicle chase in McCracken County, Kentucky, led to the arrest of two people along with a drug and firearm seizure.

On April 29, around 12:20 p.m., detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office noticed a rental vehicle driving on Cairo Road. They stopped the vehicle for a traffic infraction.

The vehicle pulled into a residence on Palestine School Road. The driver refused to identify himself to the detectives. When he was asked to exit the vehicle, he fled by accelerating through the yard and re-entering the roadway.

A vehicle chase began.

The driver quickly stopped on Palestine School Road to discard a handgun before continuing to flee.

The driver ran a stop sign and turned onto Metropolis Lake Road. The driver recklessly operated the vehicle by running stop signs, speeding and putting the public at risk for injury and death.

The chase continued onto TVA property. The driver crashed through a commercial fence gate, causing over $1,000 in damage.

The vehicle got stuck in the mud, so the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Officials say he was observed trying to hide himself near a tanker trailer before he was taken into custody.

The driver was identified as Austin W. Draffen, 26, of Paducah.

Officials then recovered a large bag of approximately 141 grams of suspected methamphetamine near the area where Draffen was apprehended. They also recovered the discarded handgun along the roadway.

Officials searched the vehicle and found suspected hallucinogenic mushrooms.

A further investigation revealed that Draffen is a convicted felon and is prohibited from carrying a firearm.

He also has prior convictions for possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. He was operating the vehicle on a suspended operator’s license during the incident.

Daffen was charged with:

  • Careless Driving
  • Operating on a Suspended or Revoked License
  • Criminal Mischief 1st Degree – Two Counts
  • Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree
  • Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree – Two Counts
  • Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (Police Officer) – Two Counts
  • Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
  • Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (On Foot)
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon
  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, 1st Offense (≥ 2 Grams Methamphetamine) – Firearm Enhanced
  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance, 2nd Degree, 1st Offense (Hallucinogen) – Firearm Enhanced

A passenger in the vehicle, 28-year-old Lorelei A. Rambeau of Benton, Ky., was taken into custody after authorities found an additional 32 grams of suspected methamphetamine and other illegal contraband in her bag.

Rambeau was charged with:

  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, 1st Offense (≥ 2 Grams Methamphetamine)
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Daffer and Rambeau were taken to the McCracken County Jail.
