“It’s something interesting, like you said, a family day for people to come out and spend time with their family, walking amongst the flags, and learning about the Red House and what it means for Cape Girardeau,” Toeniskoetter said.

Joe Roberts with the Missouri Society Sons of the American Revolution shared why the event is important for the community.

“It’s very exciting to be out and see the people’s interaction with what we’re doing,” said Roberts. “Lots of people are interested in history. They don’t really know how to get involved in it. So they come out, they see what we’ve got, they see the stuff that we have on display, and they’re really interested, ask a lot of questions, and I’m just really glad we have a place like this that we can go and relive history.”

There was a display by the Sons of the American Revolution of all 27 of the officially adopted flags in the history of the United States.

The Red House Interpretive Center is open from May through October.
