SCOTT COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - A Benton, Missouri, man was arrested in connection with an arson and burglary investigation.

On April 4, deputies with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a burglary. Immediately after, they discovered a residential structure fully engulfed in flames.

Witnesses reported seeing a white man running from the scene after setting the fire and attempting to ignite hay bales using gasoline.

At the same time, deputies responded to another reported burglary in progress at a nearby residence.

The investigation revealed forced entry into the home, significant interior damage and property theft.

Witness statements, physical evidence and a coordinated search of the area led officials to locate 27-year-old Cole Michael Hutson-Vinson of Benton, Mo.

Authorities say he fled on foot and attempted to hide. He was arrested after a brief pursuit.

The investigation revealed that the gas can used in the attempted fires was stolen from a nearby property.

As of April 5, Hutson-Vinson has been charged with:

  • Arson 2nd (RSMO 569.050)
  • Burglary 2nd (RSMO 569.170)
  • Felony Resisting (RSMO 575.150)
  • Property Damage (RSMO 569.120)
  • Stealing 750 or More (RSMO 570.030)

A bond has been set at $75,000 cash or surety.
