STEELE, Mo. (KFVS) - The Steele Police Department responded to a report of an old military-type hand grenade found on Friday evening, March 20.

According to Chief Billy Joe Stanfield, a police officer and a sheriff’s office deputy responded to a report from a citizen who found what looked to be an old military hand grenade.

The item appeared to be non-functioning.

Just to be safe, officers contacted the ATF and Southeast Missouri Regional Bomb Squad to inspect the device.

After the examination, they concluded that the device was safe and did not pose a threat. It was taken into possession by the bomb squad.

Chief Stanfield emphasizes that nobody was ever in immediate danger.
