PADUCAH, Ky. (KFVS) - With spring officially here, Baptist Health Paducah is offering safety tips for spring activities.
“Spring is a welcome change, and we love seeing people get outside and get moving,” said Jeremy Webb, MD, at Baptist Health Medical Group Primary Care in Paducah. “But after a slower winter, jumping back into activity too quickly can increase the risk of injury.”

Ease back into activity:
To avoid common injuries, gradually increase intensity when participating in activities. Baptist Health also recommends stretching before and after exercise, wearing proper footwear and allowing time for rest and recovery.
Preventing slips and falls:

Wet pavement, lingering frost and muddy trails can increase the risk of falls. They recommend wearing supportive, slip-resistant shoes and being aware of uneven terrain.
Protect against bug bites and stings:
Use insect repellent, wear long sleeves when hiking and check your skin after spending time outside. Quickly removing ticks is important along with monitoring for rash, fever and fatigue. Anybody experiencing symptoms should seek medical care.
Hydration and sun safety:
Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and take breaks.
