CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - SIU will celebrate Holi, India’s traditional Hindu spring festival, on Wednesday, March 25.
The festival will begin in Morris Library near the Abraham Lincoln bust. Participants can stop by for refreshments, music and informational handouts about the annual celebration that takes place in India.
“The Holi celebration offers a wonderful opportunity for the community to gather and share a special, fun cultural celebration,” said Renada Greer, executive director of the Student Multicultural Resource Center.
The event will move to the lawn at 2 p.m., where participants can pick up packets of colored powder to throw in the air when a signal sounds.
Organizers say the wind mixing the colors is a symbolic representation of love, unity, inclusion and happiness. They ask participants to dress accordingly.
