JACKSON, Mo. (KFVS) - Iron Mountain Railway shared its list of spring and summer events including train robberies, treasure hunts, dinosaurs and more.

It comes during the 40th anniversary of the heritage railroad.

Volunteer Grayden Mazur said keeping it going for so many decades is no small success.

“Think about an operating railroad museum. We have vintage locomotives, vintage equipment, and that takes a lot of upkeep, that’s a lot of time and a lot of money. So to keep that going for 40 years in Jackson is no small undertaking.”

The museum began offering rides in 1986. However, the two green passenger cars were built in 1926, marking one century for those.

This year being America’s 250th makes those anniversaries all the more special.

“There was a time where trains were a part of everyday life. You road them to school. You want to go to Chicago? You hopped aboard a train,” Mazur said. “Now, people don’t have that one-on-one connection with the trains. A lot of times, when we have visitors come ride the train, it’s their first time...that, to a lot of people, is very special.”

Mazur said there will be events all year, but the full schedule for spring and summer includes:
