CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission announces nominations for its 2026 Endangered Buildings List.
The purpose of the list is to promote awareness of buildings and structures in the community that the Commission believes to be at risk due to deterioration or demolition.
Nomations must include:
- Building address (if there is no address, describe the location)
- An explanation of the building’s historic significance
- An explanation of why the building is endangered
- Suggested actions to save the building
- At least one photo of the building in its current condition (PDF, JPEG or TIFF only for electronic submissions)

The deadline for submitting a nomination is March 6, 2026.
The Commission will review the nominations on March 18 and adopt the list on April 15. Both meetings are open to the public. The meetings will be held in the City Council Chambers at City Hall at 44 North Lorimer Street at 5:30 p.m. The meetings are subject to change.
