Polar Strut 5K race/1-mile walk through Christmas lights to raise money for Special Olympics Mo.

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - A “polar” run through the Christmas lights in Cape County Park South will raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics Missouri.

Hosted by the Cape Girardeau Police Department and Cape Girardeau County Parks Department, the inaugural Polar Strut 5K race/1-mile walk will be December 12.

They say it’s designed for those not interested in the cold water of the Polar Plunge in February.

According to organizers, the park will be closed during the race.

Participants will wear their head lamps and glow wear to run through the park and adjacent neighborhood. They will finish through the light tunnel at Cape County Park South.

All proceeds go to the training and competition for SOMO athletes in 14 counties in the southeast, including those in Cape Girardeau.
