SIKESTON, Mo. (KFVS) - “Light Up Sikeston with the Hope of Jesus” opens for the season the weekend after Thanksgiving.
The lighting ceremony is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, November 29 at 1221 N. Ingram Rd., near the Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Grounds.
Each year, the display raises money for a local nonprofit through community donations. This year’s is Community Sheltered Workshop.
John McHaffie is director there, as well as pastor at Sikeston First Assembly of God.
“We employ adults with disabilities, and so it’s a beautiful program and I’m so glad we get to do that.”

McHaffie said the event started six years ago. He estimates 15,000 cars roll through each year.
“It’s just been a great, beautiful thing that we get to do every year,” McHaffie said. “I like to stand on the sidelines on a Saturday night, that’s kind of the biggest crowd, and just hear the giggles and the laughter and the singing...I get to be a kid again with this.”
There are 125 10-foot by 10-foot spots for displays put up by local businesses and organizations.
In 2024, McHaffie said the community raised about $2500 for Southeast Missouri Food Bank.
