CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - An event for women offers a chance to come together for a time of encouragement and empowerment.

Women Walking with Intention is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 15 at the Shawnee Park Center in Cape Girardeau.

The day will start with a meet-and-greet for attendees to get to know each other.

The event is free to attend and includes lunch. Dress code is casual.

Organizer MaKenya Owens said an event like this is important because the many roles women are asked to fill, like wives, mothers and daughters, can be overwhelming at times.

“What I have learned is that there are support groups for addiction, or for women who have gone through divorce, or women who are struggling with different areas of their lives, but there’s not many opportunities for us to just be women, and support and encourage each other in just the day-to-day life.”

Owens said some of the takeaways will be about how to ask for help, mental well-being and how to help others.
