6th annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony held in downtown Cape Girardeau

Cape Girardeau Christmas tree lighting Tonight the sixth annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony was held in downtown Cape Girardeau to help kick off the holiday spirit (kfvs12)

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Old Town Cape kicked off the holiday season in downtown Cape Girardeau with its Christmas Tree Lighting event.

Crews set up the Christmas tree on Monday, November 25.

The tree lighting took place on Friday, November 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Attendees were able to see Santa and Mrs. Claus light the 30-foot Christmas tree in the Vasterling Suites courtyard.

There was also live music from the Herry Ford Ensemble and Christmas carolers.

Festivities included illuminated aerial acrobatic performances, food and hot beverages from local food trucks, a vote for the best-decorated food truck, and roasting s’mores around firepit stations.

The ensemble and carolers played and sang at 5:45 p.m. to welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus who arrived at 6:10 p.m. and at 6:20 p.m., Santa lit the tree.
