PADUCAH, Ky. (KFVS) - An outdoor art installation will celebrate Paducah Quilt Week.
According to a release from A.I.R. Studio Paducah, the entire southeast wall of the studio will be draped with a silver architectural quilt. They say it’s made entirely with industrial materials.
The quilt pattern consists of 66 pouches made with a special fabric normally used in the construction of homes and buildings. Each pouch is filled with inflated airbags made of recycled materials.
The public is invited to visit and take pictures with the quilt from April 2 through May 2.
The art installation was designed by Alonzo Davis and coordinated by Zoma Wallace, with Pamella Miller and Andrea Portillo as studio assistants. It was assembled in Davis’ studio in Hyattsville, Maryland.

According to the release, the artwork was inspired by the outdoor works created by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, who famously wrapped huge architectural structures like the L’Arc de Triomphe.
The American Quilter’s Society will host its annual Quilt Week shows in Paducah, Kentucky Wednesday, April 24 through Friday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Paducah-McCracken County Convention & Expo Center.
