Holiday Open House in downtown Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The Holiday Open House is a two-day event in downtown Cape Girardeau.

Mark your calendars for Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. According to organizers, admission is free, but event pricing may vary.

“We invite the community to come downtown, get in the festive holiday spirit, support our downtown businesses, and just enjoy yourselves with family and friends,” said Liz Haynes, executive director of Old Town Cape.

Starting on Friday, you can see live mannequins at Pastimes Antiques, enjoy a hot chocolate bar at Socials Cafe and Christmas carols by Alma Schrader Elementary School students.

On Saturday, there will be a holiday bazaar, artisan market on Frederick Street, and children’s activities with Discovery Playhouse from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Old Town Cape Christmas Tree at the Vasterling Suites courtyard. That’s also where photo ops with Santa will take place.

In the market lot at 35 S. Spanish Street, you can find live music, warm beverages, s’mores, horse-drawn carriage rides, get a photo with the Grinch and listen to holiday tunes by the Snowbird Street Band.

Also on Saturday evening, Old St. Vincent Church will host a brass and organ concert at 7 p.m.

Downtown businesses will be decorated for the season, with extended hours to help shoppers cross off those remaining Christmas wishlist items.

Haynes said that’s the real goal of Old Town Cape events, sending shoppers through the doors of Cape small businesses.

“When you’re downtown, we’re sure hoping you’re loving and attending the events, but we’re hoping you’re grabbing dinner in our downtown wonderful restaurants that we have, hopefully you’re shopping, you’re grabbing drinks or dessert, really supporting our downtown businesses,” said Haynes.
