More than $10K raised at Southeastern Ill. College Foundation Jazz Under the Stars

HARRISBURG, Ill. (KFVS) - The Southeastern Illinois College Foundation, in coordination with the Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art, hosted their the second Jazz Under the Stars on Saturday, September 23.

According to the college, the event raised more than $10,000 for student scholarships and support.

They said every dollar raised will also be doubled by a federal Title III grant, making the total proceeds from the event even larger.

More than 80 people attended the musical fundraiser featuring two jazz bands that performed on the Hise Museum Terrace in Harrisburg.

The opening band, said to be a local favorite, The Penguins, kicked off the event. The band features Jim Smith, Bruce Boone, Keith Talleyand Melinda Tolley.

The headliner–the Louis Pettinelli Jazz Quartet–consisting of vocals, keyboard, upright bass and drums.

Jazz music was not the only entertainment. Guests had the opportunity to enjoy the finale of two exhibits in the Hise Museum: Regional Landmarks and Architecture in the Main Gallery and The Works of Kathy Phelps in the West Gallery.

The SIC Falcon Pointe Bistro served heavy hors d’oeuvres, including shrimp cocktail shooters, a relish tray, mini sandwiches, a chocolate fountain, mini cheesecakes and other dishes.

Morello’s Restaurant & Catering provided a cash bar with a special Funky Falcon in honor of the event. Morello’s donated $1 of each drink purchased to the event.

There was also a silent auction, not only available to guests, but to anyone online, and SIC employees donated 44 bottles of wine for a raffle. The college said the raffle brought in an extra $400.
