Mt. Vernon Fall Festival begins Friday

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (KFVS) - The Mt. Vernon Fall Festival begins Friday evening, September 29.

The two-day event kicks off at 5:15 p.m. at the SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital stage.

The live entertainment lineup for this year’s Fall Festival in Mt. Vernon, Illinois has been announced. All of the activities at this year’s fest are free, along with free parking.

According to a release from Mt. Vernon Festivals, Inc., the band 90′s Kidz, a group from southern Illinois, will play tribute songs to the rock and pop music of the ‘90s. Vertical Horizon, an alternative rock band that took the music scene by storm in the late ‘90s., will perform at 8 p.m.

Jason Hulbert, the President of Mount Vernon Festivals INC., said they listened to what the community wanted, and that was more entertainment.

“Bigger name entertainment this year, we’ve got a record number of vendors the most we’ve ever had for food vendors and our regular vendors and then we brought back our favorites of course the parade and kids zone,” said Hulbert.

Hulbert also said there is plenty of family fun on both days.

“We have our Crossroads Community Hospital Parade at 1 p.m. tomorrow, that’s a favorite of the community. We have our Monken cruise in tonight with motorcycles and cars, that’s a big favorite amongst the people and we have 50 vendors and 16 food vendors through the weekend,” said Hulbert.

On Saturday, September 30, the festival continues with Burnin Bridges, one of the top country bands in St. Louis. At 5:30 p.m., there will be an inspiring performance by Brandon Davis, who according to the release, found the strength to pursue his passion for country music after a life-altering car accident.

The event will also feature a headline performance by Deana Carter, the Nashville native who became an international sensation with her unique blend of country and pop-rock. She will perform on Saturday at 8 p.m.
