Cape Girardeau Parks and Rec hosts Trail of Tears Triathlon

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (HEARTLAND WEEKEND) - The Trail of Tears Triathlon took place this Saturday, hosted by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department.

According to a release from the Parks and Rec Dept., the triathlon was held at Trail of Tears State Park on September 9 with the race beginning at 9 a.m.

Around 70 people competed in the Trail of Tears Triathlon. The race is USAT sanctioned and consisted of a 700 meter swim, 15 mile bike ride and a four mile run.

Head Timer of the race, Delbert Marriott said it was a great day to hold an event like this.

“I mean right now look,” said Marriott. “God blessed us with the most beautiful day we probably could ever have and they get to do a triathlon. I mean, does it get any better than that?”

This is the 35th annual Trail of Tears Triathlon.
