Highway 61 Yard Sale underway

SOUTHEAST Mo. (KFVS) - The Highway 61 Yard Sale is underway over Labor Day weekend.

Brian Richardet is one of the many putting on a yard sale in Perryville.

He said it’s become his family’s yearly tradition.

‘We started out here in 2010, a bunch of families just get together and bring whatever they have to sell,” said Richardet.

For others, such as Danny Stevens, the tradition is to shop.

“We always have a lot of fun coming up through 61 here , we got a lot of good buys today,” said Stevens.

But, this giant yard sale isn’t just for local shoppers. Perry County Sheriff, Jason Claus, said traffic can get busy during this time.

“The 61 Yard Sale brings in traffic from all over the place, multiple states actually, and our highways get very congested this time of year,” said Claus.

The sheriff offers these tips if you’re driving along 61 this Labor Day weekend.

“Keep multiple car lanes between you and the vehicle in front of you, avoid those quick turns when pulling off the roadways into driveways,” said Claus.

Claus said these extra precautions are extremely important.

“We just want to make sure everyone is safe and enjoying the beautiful weekend and the yard sales,” said Claus.

Brian Richardet said that’s exactly what he plans to do.

“Just spending time with my family, it is like a big party for three days,” said Richardet.

The yard sale will be on Highway 61 between Jackson and Festus from Thursday, August 31 to Saturday, September 2.
