Public showing in Mayfield features horse statues painted by students from communities affected by Dec. tornadoes

MAYFIELD, Ky. (KFVS) - There will be a public showing of Horses of Hope for a single day in Mayfield, Ky.

The showing, Resolute, will be on Thursday, June 9.

According to a release from Independence Bank, students from three communities affected by the December tornadoes worked together to paint the horse statues, alongside several Lexington artists.

Governor Andy Beshear helped unveil the three horses in late April at the Capitol. They were then bought through LexArts’ Horse Mania project.

“Public art adds value to the cultural, aesthetic and economic vitality of a community,” Governor Beshear said.

On December 2, each horse will be sold at Keeneland’s auction. The money raised will go back to relief efforts in each of the students’ hometowns.

The Ice House Gallery in Mayfield was destroyed by the tornado in December 2021.
