Winter Storm Prep with Dec. Home Improvement

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Menards announced on Saturday, December 4, how individuals can prepare for winter storms with the December 2021 Home Improvement.

While weather is uncertain and changes often, it is important to be prepared for cold temperatures, icy roads, power failures and potential loss of communication.

According to Menards it is best to listen to weather reports during storms and plan ahead.

  • Always make sure to have enough supplies on hand to prevent having a shortage
  • Stock up on water and non-perishable foods
  • Have batteries and chargers to power cellphones and radios
  • While on the road keep a windshield scraper, shovel, jumper cables, map and flashlight

  • Wear proper clothing to prevent hypothermia and frostbites
  • Have blankets for another source of warmth
  • Keep extra fuel in your vehicle and on hand
  • Make sure your fireplace, furnace, or wood stove is working
  • Have a backup generator in case of storms

  • Keep items that can prevent further complications such as emergency kits, flashlights and fire extinguishers
  • Avoid falls and other hazards
  • Keep a flashlight on hand to enhance visibility

Another way is keeping yourself and your loved ones up-to-date on current weather conditions and planning ahead by strategizing an emergency plan and map it out.
