2020 Independence Day Celebrations in the Heartland

You can still sing “Let Freedom Ring” this Independence Day even if you are socially distant.

Due to the ongoing battle with the coronavirus, Fourth of July celebrations are limited.

However, some communities are moving forward with plans to host events the whole family can enjoy while encouraging people to take safety and sanitary measures.

Here is your guide to fireworks shows still on for 2020.

MISSOURI:

Cape Girardeau

When: Saturday, July 4

Location: Arena Park

Celebrate our nation’s birthday with a spectacular fireworks show on Saturday, July 4. Bring your lawn chair to Arena Park and enjoy a tribute to our country and its veterans. Entertainment begins at 8:00 p.m. and the fireworks show begins at 9:00 p.m. Arena Park and the grandstands will open for spectators at 7:00 p.m.

Chaffee

When: Saturday, July 4 at 9 p.m.

Location: Harmon Field

Jackson

When: Saturday, July 4

Location: City Park

The Parks and Recreation Department is hosting several events including a car show cruise-in display, food vendors, and arts and crafts. Live music will be held at the bandshell at 7 p.m.

The fireworks show at 9:30 will conclude the event.

Kennett

When: Saturday, July 4, at 9 p.m.

Location: Kennett airport

A public fireworks display, but you are encouraged to practice social distancing.

Leopold

When: Saturday, July 4 at dark

Location: Leopold KC Hall

The KC Hall is also hosting a 5k run/walk at 8 a.m., a poker run at noon and a cornhole tournament at 5 p.m.

The celebration is dedicated to police officers and veterans.

Oran

When: Saturday, July 4 at 9 p.m.

Location: Oran KC parking lot

The Knights of Columbus picnic may be canceled this year, but the fireworks will go on. Bring your lawn chairs or stay in your car.

Poplar Bluff

When: Saturday, July 4 at dusk

Location: Ray Clinton Park

Fireworks are a part of the Butler County Fair. Other events scheduled include a parade, a pageant, a dog show, an auction, a power wheel derby, and a demo derby.

Sikeston

When: Saturday, July 4 at dusk

Location: Sikeston Sports Complex on

Hosted by Elks Lodge 2319

Wappapello Lake

When: Friday, July 3 at dusk

Location: Redman Creek Recreational Area

Wappapello Lake Area Association is hosting the fireworks show. Good viewing locations will be Peoples Creek, Sundowner, Eagle Point, Below the Dam, Spillway, Redman Creek, Rockwood Point and on the lake. People are encouraged to bring their favorite lawn chairs or blankets.

Whipporwill Lake

When: Saturday, July 4 at dark

Location: Lakefront

The band Classy Chassy Country is scheduled to perform live from 6 to 9 p.m.

ILLINOIS:

Anna

When: Saturday, July 4 at 8:30 p.m.

Location: City Park

The 4th of July fireworks will be held at the City Park for 2020, but the grandstands will be CLOSED. The city is planning a large display, though they are encouraging everyone to practice social distancing.

Carterville

When: Friday, July 3 after dark

Location: Walkers Bluff

Enjoy live music, food, drinks and more starting at noon. The Hollerboys and the Tucker Kuhnert Band will perform live. There is a cost of $10 per car.

Eldorado

When: Saturday, July 4 at 8:45

Location: Compressed Energy Systems in Eldorado, IL

Spectators may watch the event from their vehicles and are encouraged to practice our current social distancing policies.

Herrin

When: Saturday, July 4 at dusk

Location: Herrin City Park

Social distancing should be maintained

Harrisburg

When: Saturday, July 4 at dark

Location: Saline County Fairgrounds

Johnston City

Location: Arrowhead Lake Amphitheater

When: Wednesday, July 24 from 5 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Enjoy food, live music, entertainment, and fireworks.

Lake of Egypt

When: Friday, July 3 at dusk

Location: Pyramid Acres Marina

There will be live music on Friday and Saturday

McLeansboro

When: Saturday, July 4 at 9 p.m.

Where: McLeansboro Fairgrounds

The McLeansboro Fire Department will put on a show to entertain the whole family.

KENTUCKY:

Paducah

When: Saturday, July 4 at 9:15 p.m.

Location: Paxton Park Golf Course

The show will focus on the use of high aerial fireworks that will be visible from many parts of the city. Paxton Park will be closed to the public.
