Bald eagles and a luxury yacht are two things that don’t have a lot in common.
But in Kentucky, they combine the two for a unique Heartland Weekend adventure.
It’s all a part of eagle watch weekends offered at Kentucky Lake, a four-decade-long tradition.
Turns out, this is a prime location for eagles to call home during the winter.
In fact, Heartland Weekend’s Nichole Cartmell got the chance to board the CQ Princess and see 10 beautiful bald eagles.

In 2018, biologists counted close to 140 bald eagles wintering in the Land Between the Lakes area, as well as 30 active nests.
The yacht cruises around Kentucky Lake giving you a unique way to observe and learn about these birds of prey in their natural habitat.
The tours take place at the resort parks during weekends in January and February.
Eagle Viewing River Cruises:
- Jan. 24-25 at Lake Barkley
- Jan. 31-Feb. 2 at Kenlake
- Feb. 7-9 at Kentucky Dam Village
Each park is offering overnight packages that include tour tickets and lodging.

Ticket prices range from $25 to $70 a person. Most tours are about 3 to 3 1/2 hours.
Eagle Viewing van tours also take place most Saturdays and Sundays in January and part of February.
