Video games have been around for decades providing hours of entertainment for generations of gamers.
Atari, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Xbox, PlayStation, Wii, and the list goes on. Whether you prefer racing, sports, or combat games, there’s something for everyone in the video game world.
In fact, they are so popular, there’s a designated day to recognize this popular form of entertainment: July 8, 2018 marks National Video Game Day.
There are plenty of benefits to grabbing a controller. Studies have shown that playing video games regularly can improve vision, encourage more physical activity, spark creativity, and aid in memory improvement. Depending on which game you choose, it can also help with team building skills.
So, which video games are the best?
According to a recent study from our friends at nationaltoday.com, these are the top 10 video game franchises:
- Super Mario
- Call of Duty
- Donkey Kong
- Grand Theft Auto
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Final Fantasy
- Crash Bandicoot
We’re not saying you should drop everything and play video games all day, but feel free to mark the day with a friendly game or two of Mario Kart. You could also get the family together and put on a show by playing Rock Band. Or, you can take some time to yourself and play whatever game makes you happy.
Disclaimer: there’s no real indication as to why July 8 has been deemed National Video Game Day. In fact, there are several other days that claim to celebrate video games: July 12, September 10, and September 12.
