Join us on October 5 from 6-8 pm for our First Frightday Halloween Party at Discovery Playhouse! The event is $5 per child, $3 per member child, and adults get in for free! Get ready to get spooked! The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department presents the Haunted Hall of Horror Fridays, Saturdays, and Halloween starting October 12. It’s held each year at A.C. Brase Arena from 7-11 p.m. It’s $8 per person, kids 5 and under get in free.

Halloween Storytelling at Bollinger Mill State Historic Site

Burfordville, MO
Bollinger Mill State Historic Site is hosting Halloween Storytelling Friday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. in Burfordville. This free event features professional storyteller Marilyn Kinsella. Kinsella’s collection of stories has grown from a handful to hundreds of stories and includes personal experiences, folk tales, literary stories, and historical tales. Her style has been described as “animated” and she uses “word imaging” to color enhance the story. Please bring a lawn chair for seating. Refreshments will be provided after the storytelling.

This is an art, music, and culture convention that will be held at the Farmington VFW. Live art demonstrations, opportunities to meet local artists, authors and creators, photo opportunities, vendor table trick-or-treating, and food drive for local food pantries. The event runs from 10 a.m. until noon.

Halloween Hoopla

This spooktacular event includes a costume contest beginning at 7:30 p.m. and other fun Halloween activities including pumpkin decorating, pumpkin bowling, trick or treat bags, & more! All Hallow’s Eve Family Night at the Oliver House

Join us at the Oliver House in Jackson for some old-fashioned Halloween fun & games. The house will also be open for tours with a Halloween twist. The event runs from 4-8 p.m. Tickets are $1/ticket, $5/6 tickets, or $10/12 tickets. Most of the activities are 1-2 tickets each.

24th Annual Halloween Happenings at Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park

Lesterville, MO
This annual event kicks off with a pumpkin hunt at 7 a.m. Campers will have the day to search for pumpkins to earn some great prizes. Be forewarned, the winning pumpkins will be hard to find! Later that evening, kids will have the opportunity to trick or treat from 5:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., hosted by the campers. Costume judging will be from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., followed by the pumpkin carving contest judging at 7:15 p.m. Prizes in both events will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for kids and adults.

Roar Fest

Join us for Roar Fest! What better way to spend celebrate Halloween than by dressing up and coming to see our tigers. We will begin with a special tour during which the Tigers will receive special Halloween enrichment and we will go up onto our observation deck. Followed by a costume contest and candy! Calling all goblins, ghosts, and creatures of the night. Join us for an evening of Halloween frights…and fun! Come to Sam A. Baker State Park for the 4th annual Halloween Bash – It’s Haunting in the Park. The event will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the new Mudlick Mountain Grill and Shelter #1. The event is free and open to the public.

Pumpkin Palooza 2018

This community-based event provides hands-on science learning experiences, spooky storytelling, face-painting, pumpkin-carving, crafts, and service learning opportunity for Southeast students! Free and open to all ages. Pumpkin Palooza will take place on Sunday, October 28th from 1-4 p.m. at the Glenn House in downtown Cape Girardeau.

13th Annual SIU Glass Pumpkin Patch at SIU

We are moving the location this year. This is an annual fundraising event for Glass Program at SIU Carbondale. The patch will feature over four hundred hand-blown glass pumpkins made by students from the School of Art and Design.
Customers can park in the parking lot (6 & 6A) in front of the Morris Library.
The previous location has been great for reaching out to the local community for the past 12 years since 2006. With the new location on the SIU campus that is right outside of the Glass studio, we would like to invite the community to the studio where students create their art and works. Pulliam Industrial Education Wing houses Glass, Ceramics, and Metal and Blacksmithing studios.

Haunted Forest Hayride and Trick or Treat Event

Join us for the 2nd Camp Ondessonk Haunted Forest Hayride and Trick or Treat Event. Friday, October 26th from 8-10pm and Saturday, October 27th from 6-10pm. Admission will be $5 per person, no charge for kids 3 and under. Climb aboard if you dare and disappear into the depths of the Shawnee National Forest. **NOTE DATE CHANGE** Trunk or Treat in Vienna, IL will take place at Vienna City Park from 6:00 to 8:30 pm on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30. There will be more than 20 booths with candy and games, Zombie Paintball, inflatable QB Challenge, inflatable Safe Archery, a dragon playland for the youngsters, a 20′ Dual Lane inflatable slide, and a 30′ inflatable obstacle course. Food trucks and vendors from the area will be set up with food.

Tales from the Bloody Breathitt

Author and filmmaker Jerry Deaton always liked a good ghost story. They sent shivers up his spine. And they brought back moments in time when life was entirely different than what it is now. Deaton also knows that Breathitt County, along with Eastern Kentucky and the entire Appalachian region of America is a hotbed of ghost stories. Deaton will present ‘Tales from Bloody Breathitt’ at 7 p.m. at the McCracken County Public Library. It is free and open to the public.

Halloween Campout

Bring the kids and go camping one last time before it’s too cold. We’re offering a BOGOF special for the weekend. When you pay for Friday Night, you’ll get Saturday Night for free!
Decorate your campsite for a chance to win a free weekend next season! We will have candy and punch at the gatehouse on Saturday as well as activities throughout the day ending with S’mores by the campfire. The local area kids will be out trick-or-treating on Saturday so we are encouraging campers to hand out candy to the kiddos.Activities on Saturday will be from Noon until 7PM. Subject to cancellation if the weather turns bad. BOGOF deal will happen regardless of weather. Contact jesse.sirls@ky.gov for more information.

Feeding Nightmares

Deception, death, and dismemberment are the ingredients of Kentucky tales that have fed nightmares for generations. Storyteller Mary Hamilton will share sample stories and reveal who told them, who collected them, and why she added them to her repertoire. The event takes place at the McCracken County Public Library at 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
