Spring fun: 2019 festivals and events in the Heartland

Spring has arrived in the Heartland!

That also means the spring festival season is here!

Across the area, you’ll find things to eat, drink, live music, and all sorts of entertainment, almost every weekend until Memorial Day.

Here is your guide to festivals and major events to mark on your calendar! Be sure to check back for updates as we get them.

Spring Junkhop Outdoor Flea Market
March 23

Mount Vernon, IL

Spring Craft & Vendor Fair

Come to the annual craft and vendor fair held at the Tamms Community Center. Part of the collections will go towards the food pantry of Tamms, Il. This is a perfect time to shop for Easter and Mother’s Day. We will have a wide selection of crafters and vendors there.

Small Town Spring Festival 2019

Coulterville, IL
Come shop crafts, jewelry, Tupperware, baked goods, and all kinds of goodies at the VFW in Coulterville. All food proceeds will be donated to Coulterville PTT to help with field trip costs.

Autism Spring Carnival
April 6

Come one, come all! Join Autism Awareness of Southeast Missouri for their annual Spring Carnival at the Cape Girardeau Eagles. It is completely FREE to the entire community. April is Autism Awareness month, therefore we like to kick it off by spreading some awareness!

17th Annual Family Fun Day

Pinckneyville, IL
This free event is for children and families. It aims to recognize April as child abuse prevention month and to help promote healthy children and families all across Perry County. There will be food and drinks, door prizes, and lots of activities. Family Fun Day will be held at the Pinckneyville Fair Grounds.

51st Annual Dogwood-Azalea Festival
April 11-14

Charleston, MO
We invite you to join us for the Dogwood-Azalea Festival!  Tour the 6 mile Dogwood-Azal6-mileil when Charleston glows with the beauty of magnificent dogwoods and azaleas at peak bloom.  Our dogwoods and azaleas are the stars of this festival but read on for a list of other exciting events! Here are just a few of the events you won’t want to miss:  home tours, candlelight tour, plant sale, arts and crafts bazaar, a parade (one of the area’s largest), an old-fashioned ice cream social, piano concerts (featuring 12 pianists), carriage rides, and more!

Heritage Days Annual Event

This annual two-day festival is filled with live music, storytelling, living history exhibits and pioneer life demonstrations of rail splitting, fiddle making, blacksmithing, quilting, and other vintage crafts. It’s held at the Heritage Homestead.

Jackson in Bloom
April 13

Jackson, MO
Uptown Jackson Revitalization’s annual spring, family-oriented event will be held in uptown Jackson. Come uptown, buy plants from the Jackson High School Plant Sale, and enjoy all the activities, vendors, foods and merchant specials.

Taste of Rock ‘N Roll

4th Annual Bloomfield Heritage Days

The 4th Annual Bloomfield Heritage Days will feature old-time time encampments, pageant, dog show, car show, music, food, crafts, antiques and so much more! The Easter Bunny will also make an appearance and there will be an egg hunt, candy cannon, hawk throwing and bow shooting.

Spring Quilter’s Week

Paducah, KY
Come have some fun with us and show off one of your quilts! It is fun to participate, but you can come and just watch too. We can’t wait to see what you have to share as we make QuiltWeek history with the first-ever AQS QuiltWeek Pop-Up Quilt Exhibit.

46th Annual Great Cardboard Boat Regatta

The 46th Annual Great Cardboard Boat Regatta will take place Saturday, April 27th on the Campus Lake at Southern Illinois University. Registration will begin at 10:00 am and races will start at 1:00 pm.

Oak Street Art Fair 2019

The 4th annual Oak Street Art Fair is an all-day art and music party! Come out to Murphysboro between 10 and 5 for free live music on the Oak Leaf Stage, great local art, and structured art activities for children. So far, we have artists working in ceramics, painting, sculpture, glass, metals, jewelry, prints, fibers, photography, leather, stained glass, wood, quilting, mixed media, and musical instruments.

Locally Grown 2019

Locally Grown is Carbondale New School’s largest annual event. We will have games and art activities for kids, and music for everyone! Whether you want to sit in the sun and watch the kids play, or rock out and dance, it’s all going on at Turley Park, Saturday, April 27th, 2019 from 1 to 6 p.m.

41st Annual Blackpowder Rendezvous

Wappapello, MO
The longest running rendezvous in the state of Missouri, this two-day event will feature living history encampments, black powder shooting competitions, vendors, children’s games and more. This is a fun, FREE, family-friendly event that offers something for all ages.

CarbondALE Brew Fest

Carbondale, IL
CarbondALE Brew Fest will be held in the Town Square Pavilion on Friday, May 3rd rain or shine from 6-9 p.m. with early entry for VIP and an after party at Hangar 9 beginning at 9 p.m. Advance tickets are $25 for General Admission and include a souvenir tasting glass and tastes, $45 for VIP, which includes a premium tasting glass, tastes, early entry to the Fest and more! Pricing will be $30 for General Admission and $50 VIP at the door!

Sikeston Jaycee Crawfish Boil & Music Festival

The 10th Annual Sikeston Jaycee & Health Facilities Rehab Crawfish Boil & Music Festival at the Rodeo Grounds. Held rain or shine. Feast on more than 3,000 pounds of fresh Louisiana crawfish with all the fixings.  Enjoy live music and family activities.  Tickets are $10 presale, $12 at the gate.

Old King Coal Festival

This longstanding tradition includes the crowing of Old King Coal, Princess Flame and her court, a coal miner’s memorial service, job fair, parade, and a downtown festival filled with food, rides, games, vendors, and free nightly entertainment on the main stage.

Lowertown Fine Arts Festival

Mississippi County MayFest

Bertrand, MO
Mississippi County is hosting its first-ever Mayfest. The whole family is invited to enjoy carnival rides, live music including a performance by the Justin Heskett Band, food, games, a parade and more. The event will kick off with a special meal sponsored by the Bertrand Volunteer Fire Department. All proceeds will be used for the fire department and city park improvement funds.

9th Annual Ballard County Wheels and Wings
May 25

LaCenter, KY
Ride headquarters remain in LaCenter, KY just off U.S. 60. All routes — 15-, 30- and 60-mile, as well as a FREE 5-mile family ride — will begin at 8 a.m. The 60-mile route goes from LaCenter to Wickliffe to Barlow, Kevil and beyond, so you’ll get to see just how beautiful it is down here.

Fort D Day

For the four years of the Civil War, Fort D protected the city of Cape Girardeau from attack. Now the old fort will come to life on Memorial Day. Local re-enactors will honor the memory of veterans past and present.
