A reminder of the reason for the season
Christmas is coming! And you can certainly tell at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
That’s where you’ll find more than 500 nativities from around the world on display for the public to enjoy.
The seventh annual Nativities Around The World event kicks off the Christmas season.
Shelby Caldwell says the idea to display the scenes came from her parents. Her mother and father own more than 500 nativities they’ve collected while serving all over in the military.
Most of them are set up for the community to enjoy in annual community display at the church in Cape Girardeau.
The goal is simple: give people a way to embrace the joy of this holiday season.
This year the display features new personal collections from individuals in the community.
The nativities come from more than 30 countries, each featuring a different artistic medium like newspaper, tin, olive wood, porcelain, and even legos.
The personal expressions show the love of the reason for the season, the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
There is no charge for admission to see the display. Take a self-guided tour through the maze of nativity scenes on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 6 and 7 from 3 to 7 p.m., and on Saturday from 3 to 6:30 p.m.
The church is at 1048 West Cape Rock Drive.
