You can be on a roller derby team.
Do you have what it takes to be a roller derby skater or referee?
If you said yes, keep reading!
Cape Girardeau Roller Derby wants you. (If you are 18 years or older.)
The team is hosted a recruitment night on Aug. 6, at the AC Brase Arena. The league is looking for skaters, referees and non-skating officials that are 18-years or older. Everyone eligible is welcome.
The last game of the season rolls out on Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Arena. Watch your favorite skaters go head to head against Rolla Rockets Roller Derby from Rolla, Mo. Tickets are $7 in advance. You can get them starting Aug. 1 at the Arena Building, PMAC Music and online at Brown Paper Tickets or from one of the CGRD members. Tickets will also be available at the door for $9.
If you’ve got a kid 7 or under you’re bringing, don’t worry, this is a family event, the kids are free. Skaters are crashing for a cause in the final game, a portion of the proceeds will go to local dog rescue Mac’s Mission.
Both men and women are invited to meet the current skaters, talk with the league’s training team and ask all the questions you like.
What you might not know: derby players are all different shapes, sizes and from different backgrounds.
Like Fakin’ Bacon:
Don’t worry, you don’t need a lot of experience to join the team. A training team will guide new members through a 90-day inclusive “Fresh Meat” program.
All you have to do is show up with a mouth guard (and skates if you have them) and the team will teach you the skills you need to play and train.
Chances are good you will surprise yourself with what you are capable of doing.
