The trend is on a roll
“I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream.”
We at Heartland Weekend are singing (maybe a little screaming) with excitement.
Here’s the latest scoop: Soon you’ll be able to enjoy a sweet treat at Cape Girardeau’s first full-service rolled ice cream shop.
Mark Frazier and his wife will showcase the cool concept at Buddy’s Rolled Ice Cream.
The new shop will be located at 1720 Broadway.
You could say Frazier melted over the magic of rolled ice cream during some of his time in New York.
When he and his wife moved back to Cape Girardeau to be closer to family, they decided it was about time this craze rolled into Cape Girardeau.
He hopes to offer folks quite the show featuring a handmade, creamy mixture with endless flavor possibilities.
He says they are super excited to bring something different to the area for friends and family to enjoy together.
The rolled ice cream craze
Frazier says rolled ice cream took off in Thailand.
It’s just what it sounds like: little rolls of ice cream, packed into a cup and topped with all sorts of extras.
The process is just as much fun to watch as it is to eat.
A cup of flavored milk-based liquid is poured onto an extremely cold metal circle. As the base freezes, it’s chopped, mixed and blended.
Then it’s spread out, and at just the right moment, strips are turned into rolls.
The craze has already rolled into Marion, Illinois at Mr Kools Frozen Yogurt and More.
Frazier says he can’t wait to serve unique flavors at Buddy’s, named after their family dog, beginning this fall.
Heartland Weekend will keep you updated with the official opening date as soon as it’s available.
Until then, follow Buddy’s on Facebook.
