The trend is on a roll
“I scream, you scream, we all scream for rolled ice cream.”
We at Heartland Weekend are singing (maybe a little screaming) with excitement.
You can now enjoy a sweet treat at Cape Girardeau’s first full-service rolled ice cream shop.
Mark Frazier and his wife recently opened Buddy’s Rolled Ice Cream.
The new shop is located at 610 Whitelaw Avenue, just off of Broadway.
You could say Frazier melted over the magic of rolled ice cream during some of his time in New York.
When he and his wife moved back to Cape Girardeau to be closer to family, they decided it was about time this craze rolled into Cape Girardeau.
The shop features a handmade, creamy mixture with endless flavor possibilities.
The rolled ice cream craze
Frazier says rolled ice cream took off in Thailand.
It’s just what it sounds like: little rolls of ice cream, packed into a cup and topped with all sorts of extras.
The process is just as much fun to watch as it is to eat.
A cup of flavored milk-based liquid is poured onto an extremely cold metal circle. As the base freezes, it’s chopped, mixed and blended.
Then it’s spread out, and at just the right moment, strips are turned into rolls.
Frazier says he can’t wait to serve unique flavors at Buddy’s, named after their family dog.
You’ll see things like Trix Cereal, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, Girl Scout Cookies, Red Velvet Cupcakes, Nutty Bars, Oatmeal Creme Pie, Nutella, Strawberries, and lots more sweet treats that you can mix into your ice cream.
