Pumpkins, Apples, Hayrides, that’s what fall is made of.
The apple of our eye this weekend: local apple orchards.
The neat thing about the Heartland is the number of specialty crops that are grown here.
That list includes apples.
We took a trip to Knowlan Family Farm in Burfordville, MO where they are saying hello to fall with 29 varieties of U-pick apples.
In fact, Best Things Missouri for recognized this family farm as one of the best apple picking spots in Missouri.
We’d have to agree!
Each Saturday in the Fall (and sometimes on Sundays), Spencer Knowlan and his family will lead a wagon full of folks to the apple orchards.
Spend all afternoon picking as many or as few as you’d like.
Knowlan helped transform this family cattle farm into a u-pick orchard.
The family opened it up to folks in 2016 since then it’s become a fall destination for people in southeast Missouri.
Knowlan is quick to say it’s a perfect opportunity to get the whole family out to experience nature in a unique way.
“You pluck them off and they’ll pluck right off into your hand, and you take a bite and its one of the best apples you’ll ever have,” Knowlan said.
Who knows, you may even a new variety to enjoy.
You’re invited to enjoy more produce, boutique items, and hand-dipped ice cream inside the farm store this Heartland Weekend.
Knowlan Family Farm is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The u-pick orchards are open to the public on Saturdays.
