Big Muddy Film Festival returns to Carbondale for 40th year

This Heartland Weekend we encourage you to sit down, kick back, and relax.

That’s because the 40th annual Big Muddy Film Festival returns to Carbondale.

The film festival is ran, organized, and operated by students and faculty at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. According to Big Muddy Film Festival director, Hassan Pitts, it’s one of the oldest student ran film festivals in the country.

He says 73 movies of all genres will be shown at 10 different venues throughout the course of the week, Feb 19th – 25th.

According to Pitts, the actual films were submitted by film makers from across the country. Here, students decide which films to screen.

Over the course of the week, a panel of critics will decide which films are the best in four different categories. The winners of which, win a cash prize.
